Bernardo Bini Smaghi

Director, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), Italy.

Mr. Bernardo Bini Smaghi, was appointed as Director of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) in Rome in May 2005, coordinating CDP’s activities in the field of SME’s financing, managing the Institution’s development funds and the implementation of InfraMed and Marguerite infrastructure equity funds. Prior to joining CDP, Mr. Bini Smaghi held several positions at Europrogetti & Finanza (EPF), a CDP subsidiary, where he was General Director from 2002 till 2005. During a total period of 7 years with EPF, Mr. Bini Smaghi was involved in the financial sector with the private and the public sector on strategic, economic and financial projects, in the industrial and infrastructure fields. He was also a consultant for some important public agencies, and for 8 years manager of the economic and financial department of the most important Italian engineering companies, coordinating activities related to international Institutions, such as the EU, the World Bank, the BERD and the EIB. He was a Professor of Project Finance and Project Development at the STOA’ University and at Roma Tre, Dept. of Architecture.

Mr. Bini Smaghi is married and has 4 children ; he obtained a Degree in Economic Sciences and a Degree in Applied Mathematic Engineering from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium.
